Cadillac of Novi soars to top spot

Dealer wins company's national sales title

It took just two years for Cadillac of Novi to get to the top in terms nationwide vehicle sales for Cadillac
dealers. And general manager Edward Pobur plans on staying there. "It means a lot to us," Pobur said just days after the dealership celebrated its two year anniversary on Jan. 15. "I always preach to my staff that no one remembers who number two is."

The dealership on Grand River Avenue, which formerly housed a Hummer dealership, sold 1,761 cars in 2011, besting Gold Coast Cadillac in Oakhurst, N.J., by 36 vehicles. Gold Coast had won multiple nationwide titles over the last 10-12 years, Pobur said, so beating them for the title was even sweeter.
There is no trophy or celebration for winning the title, but that doesn't matter to Pobur. "It's a pride thing," he said.

Cadillac of Novi finished second to Gold Coast in 2010, but soared past them this year thanks to a strong December when they sold 321 vehicles. The Novi dealer also increased its sales by 40 percent from 2010 when it sold 1,255 vehicles. Pobur said a lot of their success can be attributed to owners Dan Frost and Gary Wood. "They give us the tools to succeed, and it's up to us at the dealership level to put it together," he said. He also was quick to praise the management and employees at the Novi dealership and the customers who believe in their product. Popur expects to sell between 1,800-2,000 vehicles this year, and foresees getting to a point where they are selling nearly 3,000. "It's not like slicing atoms," Pobur said. "But you have to stay with it to make it work."
