Cure Duchenne Auctioning 50 Cadillac Super Bowl XLV tickets
Proceeds to fund research efforts targeting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy

2010-12-21

DETROIT - Cadillac announced this week a partnership that will allow its Super Bowl tickets to be used to further the cause of Cure Duchenne, a charity that raises research funds and awareness for Duchenne, the most common muscle disease in children.

Cure Duchenne, a non-profit based in Newport Beach, Calif., will auction several Super Bowl XLV packages provided by Cadillac. Each package includes hotel accommodations and a pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLV, scheduled to be played February 6 at Cowboys Stadium in North Texas.

The auction runs on CharityBuzz through Jan. 24. Proceeds will benefit leading edge research that will help cure Duchenne, a progressive form of Muscular Dystrophy.  Cadillac will broadcast a television public service announcement featuring NFL linebacker Clay Matthews beginning next week.

"Duchenne is a devastating muscle disease in children, and we hope to raise awareness and join in the fight," said Don Butler, vice president for Cadillac marketing.  "The organization has an entrepreneurial spirit that Cadillac is drawn to as a brand. They are not afraid to create their own path of innovation toward new solutions and technologies."

Currently 20,000 boys and young men are affected by Duchenne in the United States. It is a genetic disease that occurs in one of 3,500 boys worldwide. Boys with Duchenne are usually diagnosed by the age of five, in a wheelchair by age 12, and may be completely paralyzed by their late teens. Historically, most DMD patients do not live to see adulthood. Duchenne can occur in any family, from any race and from any background.  Up until now, there has been no cure, but for the first time there is hope that the current research will result in treatments which will greatly improve the lives of Duchenne boys.

"We are humbled that a major luxury brand like Cadillac has realized the importance of our mission and our boys," said Debra Miller, who founded Cure Duchenne with her husband in 2003 when her son was diagnosed with the disease. "Cadillac is providing an amazing opportunity to increase awareness and research for Duchenne. Money raised by Cure Duchenne will go directly to research aimed at finding a cure."
